___ ## About CTA The CERN Tape Archive (CTA) is the storage system for the custodial copy of all physics data at CERN. CTA was designed to cope with the huge storage and performance demands of [LHC Run-3](https://home.cern/press/2022/run-3) and beyond. CTA is: - The leading Free and Open Source tape data management software - Home to all the experimental physics data at CERN - Scalable, for small and large installations - Self-hostable, on-premise CTA is designed to operate on physical tape infrastructure and is used in combination with a disk buffer system such as [EOS](https://eos-web.web.cern.ch/eos-web/) or [dCache](https://www.dcache.org/). For development purposes it is also possible to run a containerized setup of the CTA components. For this, you can have a look at the [Development documentation](https://cta.docs.cern.ch/latest/dev/getting-started/). ## Contributing 1. Request access to work on the CTA repository or create a fork. 2. [Set up a development environment](https://cta.docs.cern.ch/latest/dev/setup/setup/). 3. [Choose or create an issue](https://cta.docs.cern.ch/latest/dev/contributing/issues/) to work on. 4. [Create a branch](https://cta.docs.cern.ch/latest/dev/contributing/branches/) on the CTA repository. 5. Make your changes on this branch (see [Coding Conventions](https://cta.docs.cern.ch/latest/conventions/coding/general/)). 6. [Open a merge request](https://cta.docs.cern.ch/latest/dev/contributing/merge-requests/) from your branch into `main`. 7. Ensure all necessary checks pass and assign/request a reviewer. 8. Wait for your work to be reviewed and eventually merged. For more details, see the [Developer Documentation](https://cta.docs.cern.ch/latest/dev/getting-started/). ## License CTA is licensed under [GPL Version 3](https://gitlab.cern.ch/cta/CTA/-/blob/main/COPYING?ref_type=heads) and uses [SPDX](https://spdx.dev) identifiers for machine-readable licensing information.
